A Long Time Coming: Farrington Defeats Kahuku for First Time Since 2016

First-Half Fireworks

Farrington set the tone early behind a strong opening quarter from Jenn Tomas-Faumui, who scored six of her eight points in the first period as the Governors jumped out to a 12–8 lead. Kahuku responded with defensive pressure and timely baskets, closing the second quarter on an 8–0 run to pull within 18–20 at halftime and keep the contest tightly contested.

Governors Take Control

The momentum of the night — and the breakthrough that had eluded Farrington for nearly a decade — came in the third quarter behind Fun Factory VIP of the Game Jadie Daquioag. After missing her first two free-throw attempts, Daquioag regrouped and knocked down a pair at the 3:23 mark of the period. On the ensuing possession, she jumped the inbounds pass, then euro-stepped through traffic for a reverse scoop finish without a dribble to give the Governors a 26–23 lead.

Daquioag wasn’t done. She closed the quarter with a three-pointer from the left wing — Farrington’s only made triple of the game — as the Governors outscored Kahuku 13–3 in the third. The surge proved decisive in what became Farrington’s first victory over Kahuku since December 29, 2016.

Defensive Highlights

Farrington’s defense took complete control during a crucial stretch bridging the third and fourth quarters. Kahuku did not score from the 5:01 mark of the third quarter until 5:39 remained in the fourth, allowing the Governors to string together a 13–0 run. That stretch pushed Farrington’s lead to its largest of the night at 37–25 and shifted the game firmly in the home team’s favor.

Standout Performances

Daquioag finished with a game-high 13 points, scoring 11 in the second half and seven during the pivotal third quarter. Tomas-Faumui and Jaylah Iaea added eight points apiece, while Kristialynn Tacla chipped in six. Farrington leaned on balance and defensive intensity rather than perimeter shooting, finishing just 1-for-the-game from beyond the arc.

Kahuku was led by Daela Seui-Kubota’s 12 points and 10 from Takara Tailele. All seven Red Raiders who saw the floor contributed offensively, but late missed opportunities at the line — including a 0-for-4 showing in the final two minutes — stalled any comeback hopes.

Closing Moments

Kahuku trimmed the deficit to 37–32 early in the fourth on a Seui-Kubota basket off a turnover, but Daquioag answered with a strong finish through contact at the 4:01 mark to swing momentum back to Farrington. From there, the Governors closed out a 45–37 victory that combined defensive grit, timely execution, and long-awaited payoff.
