WAIKIKI — One of the top scoring weapons in the state is staying home.
Mililani senior Jaslene Cayetano will continue her soccer career at the University of Hawai’i after making her commitment official at a Signing Day event Wednesday morning at the Sheraton Waikiki.
It was a day that had her smiling from ear to ear the moment she woke up.
“I was really excited to sign the papers today and give gratitude to my parents too,” said Cayetano. “I’m really happy, my parents are here and I see all my friends committing as well and this whole process has been exciting.”
Cayetano said what drew her to the Rainbow Wahine soccer program was “the culture and the community” that she would be joining.
“I really liked the campus and everything and coach Bud (Nagamine) and coach Ula (Rowe) and coach Daniel (Saucedo), they’re all really welcoming and they just gave me hope.”

She added that the coaching staff potentially projects her to play the 10 (attacking midfielder) or the 8 (central midfield).
“I think everywhere on the offensive side. Attacking, that’s my speciality,” Cayetano said.
The Mililani senior enters her final year in the high school ranks having scored seven goals in each of her previous two seasons.
Cayetano also scored a goal off a free kick in both the OIA semifinals and OIA championship earlier this year to help the Trojans claim their league-leading 21st title.
“Her ability to create space and attack on the run makes her dangerous in the attacking third for defenses,” Mililani coach Brendyn Agbayani said of Cayetano.
“Jas also has the work ethic to get better each day and because of that she will be one of the premier players heading into the OIA season to watch.”
When Jas Cayetano is able to get into space & use her speed, she is ultra dangerous. Her goal early in the second half doubled Mililani's lead, and the @MililaniTrojans went on to take home the #OIASoccer D1 Championship.#spectrumoc16sports #impactplayer #mililani pic.twitter.com/jC4XB0ng1b
