HONOLULU – Bringing bounce back to the ‘Bows.

Former South Dakota guard Quandre “Dre” Bullock is trading in the winter snow for sand and sunshine, announcing his commitment to the University of Hawai’i on Monday and becoming the fourth transfer member of the Rainbow Warriors’ 2025 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in his lone season with the Coyotes, helping guide the program to the Summit League semifinals as a two-way threat last year.

UH was aggressive in its pursuit of the athletic guard and was one of the first programs to reach out after Bullock hit the portal. Associate head coach Brad Davidson, who spent 2018-2021 at USD, saw a connection with former South Dakota assistant coach Casey Kasperbauer help both Bullock and UH find the mutual common interest quickly.

“We’re here to win games and go dancing in March Madness,” Bullock said.

After entering the portal in the middle of March, Bullock became a hot commodity as he heard from double-digit programs within two weeks. Schools such as Cal, Long Beach State, San Diego State and Vanderbilt got into the mix early along with Hawai’i and Oregon State even secured a visit with the talented wing.

“I felt a strong connection with the coaching staff and they’ve been consistent since Day 1,” Bullock responded when asked what stood out about UH. “Also, I’ve been to cold places almost my whole career, so the weather kind of got me and this is basically [like playing professionally overseas], except I’m in Hawai’i.”

The addition of Bullock continues the remodeling of the Rainbow Warriors and adds another shooting threat from beyond the arc to next year’s roster. The guard is a career 37.2% shooter from 3-point range, showing off an ability to knock it down off the catch and off the dribble in multiple roles. He started his career at the JUCO level before jumping up to the Division I ranks, racking up 782 points across 91 games (21 starts) in three seasons.

Hawai’i will be the guard’s fourth stop since coming to Division I, previously playing at LA Tech and Niagara before his stay in South Dakota last year. Bullock originally stood out to UH onlookers two years ago when he suited up inside the Stan Sheriff Center for Niagara, scoring nine points (4/8 FG) in 17 minutes off the bench.

Bullock took a visit to the University of Hawai’i over the weekend, talking with the coaching staff while enjoying the beautiful scenery of O’ahu and the school. The chance to chat with everyone face-to-face while in Hawai’i was a big help to settling his mind on a school as well.

“Meeting everyone in-person, I felt like we all had chemistry during our conversations,” Bullock said. “The visit was great; we did almost anything you could think of.”

Shooting isn’t the only trait that the 6-foot-6 Bullock brings to the table. The bouncy guard loves to uncork monstrous dunks in traffic and in transition and competes on the defensive end, finishing among the top three players in total steals and blocks last year for South Dakota while playing primarily off the bench.

“Excitement, defense, toughness,” Bullock responded when asked what his game entails. “And a lot of creativity of scoring.”

Bullock is rated as a three-star recruit and one of the top 300 players to hit the portal this offseason by EvanMiya.com and joins Hunter Erickson, Tanner Cuff and Isaac Johnson as players added by the Rainbow Warriors via transfer since the year ended. According to EvanMiya’s database, there are currently over 1,500 uncommitted players in the portal as of April 21 and more than 2,000 that entered during the cycle.
