HONOLULU – Purple reign.

The Pearl City girls riflerey team captured its third straight Hawaii Army National Guard Air Riflery/HHSAA state championship Tuesday in dominating fashion at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

Led by individual girls champion Chloe Obuhanych — who had an individual score of 640 — the Chargers tallied a team score of 2,181, which was the highest team score by any gender in state tournament history.

Since 2016, the competition has employed a final round for the top eight finishers after the prone, standing and kneeling rounds. Obuhanych had the top score heading into the final round and had the best performance in the final with a score of 91. But individual scores in the final round are not factored into the team’s overall score.

Hawaii Baptist’s Kamalei Conionero was the second highest individual with a score of 637.2, but Pearl City’s Jenna Liang and Ella Wenceslao was right behind with scores of 636.2 and 634.3 respectively.
Serah Yogi rounded out the Chargers’ effort by placing 12th individually with a score of 538 as the Chargers won their fifth girls team title, which have all come under coach Lester Aranaydo.

Obuhanych was also Pearl City’s third individual state champion in program history. Jolana Gollero was the first female to win it in 2006 and Lelan Aranaydo won the boys individual title in 2008.

On the boys side, Kauai won its first-ever team title with a total score of 2091 and Dylan Fo became Hanalani’s first-ever individual state champion with a score of 642.9.

Jacob Andres placed second in the individual competition to help the Red Raiders win the team championship.
