MILILANI — Only team sits alone at the top.

Top-ranked Campbell snapped a 16-game losing streak to No. 2 Mililani as Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele tossed six touchdown passes to lead the Sabers to a 41-20 win over the Trojans at John Kauinana Stadium Saturday night.

The Sabers improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in OIA Open Division league play as they recorded their first win over the Trojans since Sept. 16, 2011.

“I think it’s a testament to how hard we work,” said Sagapolutele, who has given a verbal commitment to play for the Cal Golden Bears.

“We’re always preparing in film, in the weight room and on the field. It’s just a team effort. My O-line was giving me the time, my receivers were getting open of course. I just had to make the easy throws. It’s just all glory to God always.”

Mililani (6-1, 2-1) to its credit, gave Campbell a run for its money despite being without a number of key starters, including reigning Offensive Player of the Year Kini McMillan. The Trojans tied it at 13-all with 2:11 to play in the first half and made it a 27-20 game with 1:53 remaining in the third quarter.

But then Zayden Alviar-Costa took off, with a 43-yard TD pass from Sagapolutele to end the third quarter to give the Sabers all the momentum.

“That was big,” Sagapolutele said of the score to end the third quarter. “They had just scored, they were down one (score), just to go back up one more touchdown, it kind of helped our spirit and the team was riled up and just ready to keep going.”

Alviar-Costa caught another TD in the fourth quarter for the final point total. He finished with six receptions for 116 yards and two scores.

Rusten Abang-Perez was also solid with six receptions for 111 yards and two scores, which both came on the drive before and after halftime.

Sagapolutele finished with 350 yards on 23-for-31 passing. He also threw scoring passes to Tyson Ball and Brystin Sansano.

The Campbell defense registered five total sacks in the win with Zechariah Alualu-Tuiolemotu and Antonio Castro each getting two of them.

Nakoa Kahana-Travis carried the ball 21 times for 117 yards and two TDs to lead the Trojans in the loss.

Junior varsity call-up Dallas Carter did admirable in his first-ever varsity contest, completing 11 of 19 passes for 139 yards and a game-tying TD to Lehiwa Kahana-Travis late in the second quarter.
