HONOLULU – Only the bold.

The Big West announced on Thursday the addition of “Bold Week” for the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball schedule, part of the conference’s re-working of league games to eliminate three games in a single week from member’s schedules. The Big West also teased the full conference schedule release for next week by leaking the two days of matchups for “Bold Week”.

“Bold Week” will open the month of December (Dec. 5 & Dec. 7) for programs, beginning league-wide Big West competitions earlier than ever before by adding an extra week for games to be played in the calendar year’s final month.

Between the feedback received from teams and a desire to bring the drama of conference play to fans sooner, the Big West presented members with multiple scheduling options including 16-game, 18-game and 20-game conference slates. With a desire to make sure all teams play twice, the 20-game option over 11 weeks was put into the upcoming year’s roadmap.

Hawai’i will be the lone men’s and women’s teams with only one conference game during “Bold Week” as the programs received the first of two conference season byes before kicking off Big West play on December 7 against Long Beach State. With 11 teams in the conference, there will be a rotation of league members that receive only one game during “Bold Week” each season with UH being the inaugural program to receive the early off day.
