Kahuku blitzes Kaiser, 66-32, to stay atop OIA East standings

HAWAII KAI — The Red Raiders keep rolling.Kahuku continued its unbeaten run through OIA East play with a 66-32 road win over Kaiser Tuesday night.The Red Raiders used a 19-0 run in the first quarter to take control of the contest as they led 24-4 after the first eight minutes of play.Freshman Tailele Wily-Ava, the ‘Yeah U Player of the Game,’ set the tone in the opening stanza by knocking down three triples to score 11 of her 13 points in the frame. She also tallied six assists and provided strong defense throughout the whole game.The leading scorers for Kahuku (10-0 OIA East) were Makana Kamake’eaina and Elisa Holakeituai with 15 points apiece. Posia Wily also finished in double figures with 12 points and eight assists.Leading the Cougars (4-6 league) in the loss was senior Alexus Ma’ae, who led all scorers with 18 points.Kaiser was able to keep the second quarter close, 15 to 13, and even trimmed the lead down to 17 in the third quarter at one point — but lack of depth and subs started to take its toll in the second half. The Cougars suited up just seven players to the Red Raiders’ 12.
