KALIHI — Hunter Garcia scored 20 points and Shayniah Cabato-Machado added 19 more as host Farrington took care of Castle, 56-39, Friday night in an OIA East contest at Kitamura Gymnasium.
The Governors trailed 12-5 after the opening quarter, but stormed back in the next three frames to pick up their second straight win to improve to 5-4 in league play.
“We just pushed and we had faith,” said Cabato-Machado, who was selected as the ‘Yeah U Player of the Game.’
“I just had faith in my teammates. Without my teammates, we wouldn’t catch up to the score. We just fought, tried our best.”
Cabato-Machado had to leave the game for a stretch during the first quarter after falling on her head trying to get a rebound, but she reentered the game in the second period to provide a spark for the Governors.
Farrington also employed a full-court press against the Knights that helped turn the game around.
“Our defense, we just pushed them and got them tired and we just started pressing them till they got tired,” said Cabato-Machado.
Kamryn Felipe scored eight points, Jennessy Tomas-Faumui had six and Shaenna Auld chipped in three points to round out the scorers for the home team.
Kalia Chun had 13 points and Kaimana Perrault scored 11 on three made triples to lead Castle (3-8 overall, 2-7 league) in the loss.
