HONOLULU – Coach, Carter is in the fold.

The Rainbow Warriors’ 2025 recruiting class gained an excellent centerpiece on Sunday as Rosemary Anderson (OR) guard Hunter Carter announced his commitment to the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball program. The Tacoma, Washington-native held offers from Portland, Montana State, Seattle, UT-Arlington, Monmouth and the University of Washington while maintaining interest from Ole Miss, Georgia, San Diego and others.

A 6-foot-6 combo guard, Carter is a three-level scorer that can play multiple positions while handling playmaking responsibilities. Originally one of the youngest players in the class of 2024, the three-star guard reclassified in March of 2023 as his recruiting started pick up and settled into the 2025 class.

Carter started his career suiting up for Annie Wright HS (WA) but spent the last two seasons playing for Accelerated Prep (CO) and competing in the Grind Session’s Power Conference against some of the best high school teams in the country, including Utah Prep and Prolific Prep (CA). As a junior, Carter averaged nearly 20 points per game against top high school competition.

The combo guard made one final move this offseason, enrolling at Rosemary Anderson to return closer to home while remaining on the Grind Session circuit. He hopes to use his experience from the past two years and playing with All-Americans like current Kansas State big man Baye Fall to continue his winning ways before making the trek to the islands for the next step.

Carter received an offer from UH on September 1 and quickly made his decision after taking an official visit to the islands at the start of the month, his first-ever trip to Hawai’i. The MVP of the 2023 “Underrated Tour” put on by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, Carter immediately connected to the team and islands on his visit.

“As soon as I got to Hawai’i, it felt like family and felt right,” Carter said of his official visit to Mānoa. “The atmosphere is amazing, and I want to be a part of it. There’s a feeling God gives you when you know something is right for you and that’s what I got.”

(Note: Carter is followed by Stephen Curry on Instagram after the two met during the “Underrated” event.)

Despite offering less than a month ago, Carter felt a rapid connection with the entire staff for the Rainbow Warriors – a difference between UH and other programs that were in the mix for the rising senior’s talents.

Much like current Rainbow Warriors freshman Aaron Hunkin-Claytor, do not be surprised to see Carter rack up accolades in his final season of high school ball. Multiple people that have watched Carter play believe that the lanky guard could enter a starting lineup from the first day he puts on a college jersey.

Hawai’i will have more spots to fill next year with five seniors on the 2024-25 roster, including offseason transfer portal additions C Tanner Christensen, G Marcus Greene, F Gytis Nemeikša and F/C Jerome Palm. Carter provides an excellent floor to the class while being a high-ceiling prospect for the Rainbow Warriors.
