WAIALAE — It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon for the first day of the Sony Open in Hawai’i, which saw the day end with three American golfers (Chris Kirk, Jordan Spieth and Taylor Montgomery) tied at the top after shooting 6-under par and seven other golfers shoot 5-under to round out the top 10. Play was suspended at 6:11 p.m. HST due to darkness.
The event last year was won by 2021 Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama, as the golfer from Japan came back from a five-stroke deficit to force a playoff with Russell Henley.
